Plaque unveiled to mark day Muhammad Ali visited Fine Fare store in Hampshire
A plaque has been unveiled to commemorate the day Muhammad Ali popped into a supermarket near Fareham.
The boxing superstar was mobbed by fans when he visted the former Fine Fare supermarket in Hedge End in 1971 as part of a nationwide campaign to promote malted milk drink Ovaltine.
Now a plaque to mark the event has been unveiled at what is now the Cotswold Outdoor store the 2000 Centre in St John’s Road.
It was funded by Black History Month South and unveiled by the Mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Des Scott.
Ali died at the age of 74 in June this year after a long battle against Parkinson’s Disease.
