AS THE Met Office issues an amber warning for extreme heat lasting until Sunday, some Portsmouth residents are enjoying the soaring temperatures - while others are hoping for a break from the heat.

However, the high temperatures are expected to build through the week, peaking on Friday and Saturday - and rain is not anticipated until next week.

Sunny intervals are expected to give way to cloudy weather by late morning on Tuesday, August 16.

Meanwhile, residents are advised to take care as the extreme hot weather is likely to cause adverse health effects to those vulnerable to the heat.

The wider population is also at risk of sunburn or heat exhaustion - including dehydration, nausea, and fatigue.
