From knitting workshops to banana extravaganza’s, we’ve found five things for locals to get up too in the city over the weekend.

There are plenty of things to keep you busy in and around the city and to prove it to you, The News have compiled a list of five things which we think could brighten up your weekend.

  1. On Friday and Saturday, the Jack House Gallery is hosting Let's Knit Our Home Together 1pm to 4:30pm. Following on from her exhibition and knitting workshop in August last year, instructor Pooja Shah is back to invite people of all backgrounds to join her latest workshop and be part of a community ‘conversation’ around knitting and the traditional art of Rangoli. Head to eventbrite.co.uk to buy tickets, £45 for one session, £85 for both sessions, or £25 for students.
  2. You could pop along to Go Bananas at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, a free event hosting activities and food in association with Fairtrade Fortnight. There will be a free kids activity to spot Fairtrade items in the museum’s collections, with a prize of a small Fairtrade chocolate or a Fairtrade banana. The museum’s café will also be promoting items that include Fairtrade products – including tasty banana bread – and a free banana with every purchase. The museum is open free of charge 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

  3. On Saturday at 7pm, award-winning British singer-songwriter and guitarist Blair Dunlop heads to the Groundlings Theatre for a special live performance.

The musician has now released four albums, two EPs, and toured around the globe – all in just a 5-year career. His third album, Gilded, was released on his own label, Gilded Wings, gaining BBC Radio 2 Playlist status for the two single releases, The Egoist and 356.

    Head to groundlings.co.uk for tickets.
