A POMPEY chief has warned coronavirus could cost the club £100,000 a game if they are forced to play matches behind closed doors.

Chief executive Mark Catlin said it would be ‘devastating’ if the club lost its matchday revenue if fans are not allowed to games.

The CEO believes clubs would struggle to pay players – pushing those struggling in the bottom two divisions over the brink.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Catlin said: ‘There's a lot of clubs reliant on that matchday income to pay wages at the end of the month.

‘It's not just the income coming in from gate receipts, it's all the spin-offs like programs, food and beverage, that type of thing. It could be quite devastating.’
