Businessmen’s club supports Hayling Island College awards

A businessmen’S club has given out two awards to young people at Hayling Island College.

The Hayling Island Businessmen’s Club has increased the amount of support it has given to youth groups in recent years, so it decided to sponsor two awards at the college.

All winners received £100, in addition to trophies, at the final assembly of the year.

The award for Sportsperson of the Year was presented to Ben Todd, who was described as ‘a fantastic sailor’.

The trophy was awarded in memory of former HIBC chairman Geoff Foot and was presented by his son Marcus.

The award for Achiever of the Year, in memory of former HIBC chairman Wally Egan, was awarded jointly to Scarlett Vadgama and Anna Eglin for showing extremely promising enterprising skills when preparing for a business and languages challenge. 

Scarlett and Anna created their own corporate identity and developed a marketing strategy to promote their business in the target language.

They both displayed ‘mature and thoughtful interpersonal and communication skills and carried out research which showed a calm and methodical approach to problem solving’.

HIBC said both Scarlett and Anna deserved to be recognised for their extremely mature and professional attitude towards the challenge.

The trophy was awarded by current HIBC chairman John Cushion.
