Gosport Borough FC hit the jackpot in their side’s Portsmouth Senior Cup second-round win over Widbrook United as they stormed to a 19-1 victory, breaking a 71-year club record in the process. Eight different players scored for the near-full strength side who overwhelmed their Portsmouth Saturday Football League. Gosport - who play six divisions above their opponents in the English football league pyramid - commented on Facebook that despite the defeat Widbrook had behaved with “good grace and humour”. The home team were 10-1 up at half time. The club’s previous winning record was a 14-0 win against Cunliffe Owen in 1945.
