This summer has seen a number of top names join the Blues and their rivals as the third tier looks to be as tough as ever.
Danny Cowley has recruited 11 new faces to date, with Colby Bishop, Marlon Pack, Josh Griffiths and the Spurs loanee being some of the top picks.
With new names arriving in League One, we’ve taken a look at Transfermarkt’s estimated most expensive combined XI from the third tier.
Using Cowley’s preferred 4-4-2 system, how many of Pompey’s newest signings make the cut?
Here’s how that team looks.
1. GK: Josh Griffiths - £900k (Pompey)
The West Brom loanee arrived at Fratton Park with big shoes to fill from those left by Gavin Bazunu. Transfermarkt suggests that the 20-year-old is joint most expensive keeper in League One alongside Bolton keeper James Trafford, who’s on loan from Manchester City. 2. RB: Conor Bradley - £900k (Bolton)
The 19-year-old joined Bolton in June after he penned a season-long loan from Liverpool. The right-back has been capped three times for the Republic of Ireland since his debut in 2021 and also has five youth appearances to his name as well. Photo: John Powell
3. CB: Mads Juel Andersen - £1.62m (Barnsley)
Andersen has featured in both games for Barnsley this term, helping the Tykes keep a clean sheet on the opening day. The centre-back is into his final year at Oakwell after he joined from Danish side Brondby for a £900,000 fee in 2019. Photo: Jacques Feeney
4. CB: Michal Helik - £2.7m (Barnsley)
The Polish international has been rumoured to depart Oakwell this summer with Poland champions Lech Poznan eyeing a record swoop for the defender. Helik won the players’ player of the year with the Tykes last term but is yet to feature in any of Barnsley opening two League One fixtures to date. Photo: George Wood
