On this day: Berkovic becomes Pompey's highest paid player
On January 9, 2004, Eyal Berkovic became the highest paid player in Pompey's history.
The attacking midfielder moved to Fratton Park from Manchester City on a free transfer, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal.
He was reportedly on £25,000 a week.
The Israeli international stayed only a year, though.
He scored three goals in 28 appearances before returning to the country of his birth in January 2005 with Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
