SCORES of worried passengers have been evacuated from Havant train station amid a '˜security' scare.

British Transport Police officers were called to the transport hub following reports of a suspicious package being unearthed.

The call came into police at 4.26pm.

Services were disrupted due to the discovery, with train operator Southern saying it was ‘unable to serve’ Havant while security checks were carried out.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: ‘Officers attended the scene and deemed the item to be non-suspicious.

‘The station was evacuated, but has now reopened.’
