Hide AdLeader of Gosport Borough Council, Cllr Mark Hook, said: ‘With winds measuring over 100mph on boxing day evening, battering our defences and causing so much damage, I want to say a big thank you to my council duty officer, our coastal partners and the contractors who met the following morning.
‘Between them they came up with an emergency action plan to make the area safe, protect the road and to retain the sea wall.’
Cllr Hook thanked contractor GS Building Services, which came to the council’s aid when the promenade dropped by around 30cm due to the damage.
The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership is now drawing up an action plan with the council for a permanent solution.
