DRIVERS have been warned to take extra care on a busy roundabout connecting to the M275 as the traffic light system has stopped working.

Several sets of traffic lights on the Rudmore roundabout – which has been undergoing improvement works – went down earlier this morning.

Lights stopping traffic after the turn on to the M275, as well as those controlling traffic coming off the motorway and traffic heading towards North End, were all out.

Work is under way to rectify the fault, according to a representative from Portsmouth City Council.

Writing on social media, the representative said: ‘Rudmore RAB, traffic light fault - Engineers aware please drive with caution.’

Improvement works around the roundabout – including extending bus lanes and widening the entrance to the M275 – began on August 22 and will continue until late November.

Most of the work will take place at night, except for improvements to the northbound slip road on to the M275 which will take place during the daytime.
