Hide AdDan, who is a doctor, met Duncan while volunteering and decided to take part in the marathon to help his friend finish the race following a previous failed attempt.
The 45-year-old said: ‘I completed four marathons in four weekends and one of them was an ultra-marathon.
‘It was extremely hard, but I never doubted that we would both do it.
‘It was an extraordinary event to be part of and I’ve got an enormous amount of respect for Duncan. Even though I prepared for the temperatures, the extreme heat of the Sahara was something else.’
Dan wanted to thank the Institute of Naval Medicine, where he works, for allowing him to do the event for charity.
