A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car collided with a lamppost outside a student hall in Portsmouth.

The 35-year-old from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink after a collision on Stanhope Road outside Catherine House.

A police spokesman said: ‘We were called just before 2.40pm following a report of a collision involving a car and lamp post.

‘Officers attended the scene and a 35-year-old woman from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink. She remains in custody.’

A witness nearby said he heard a ‘massive bang’ after the collision.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, told The News: ‘We heard a massive bang and then I went outside and saw the car which was really damaged.

‘The noise was very loud.’
