Warning issued in Hampshire town about coronavirus-based scams

That is the message from Fareham Borough Council, which has become aware of scams targeting vulnerable residents in the surrounding area.
These scams take many forms such as receiving text messages claiming people have been fined by the government, or criminals turning up on people’s doorsteps offering to test them for Covid-19.

Hide AdCouncillor Trevor Cartwright, executive member for health and public protection, said: ‘Exploiting people who are already under a great amount of stress from a global pandemic is abhorrent.
‘As some of our most vulnerable residents may not have access to the internet and might not see our online campaign, we want to ask our residents to inform friends and family of the scams to ensure everyone in the borough is safe.’
