Southsea Common 'serious sexual assault' probe which saw woman, 40, attacked ends with 'no suspect identified'

The 40-year-old victim was treated in hospital for a possible fractured cheekbone and bruising to her face, arms, legs and back, police previously said.
Detectives investigated after she reported the August 3 attack happening between 9pm and 11.40pm on Southsea Common, just off Clarence Parade.

Hide AdA 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape but was later released without further action.
Officers previously said the woman said she was victim to a serious sexual assault, and the assailant had worn a blue surgical mask.
The assault was among several ‘shocking and unnerving’ stranger sex attacks in Portsmouth last summer.
At a public meeting Chief Inspector Rob Mitchell previously said they were ‘unusual’ for the city but added: ‘They stand out because they are shocking and unnerving incidents when they happen.’

Hide AdHampshire police have confirmed their investigation was ‘completed’ and would be filed subject to further evidence emerging.
A spokeswoman said: ‘We received a report of a serious sexual assault on Southsea Common on Monday, August 3 2020.
‘Detectives from Portsmouth CID have now completed an investigation after carefully reviewing the information available.
‘Having reviewed the available evidence, no suspects have been identified.
