A DAUGHTER has been spared jail after taking £18,000 from her mum.

Katie Hall, 34, used the banking app on her mother Nicola Hall's phone to transfer the cash between June 1 in 2019 and September 30 that year.

Portsmouth magistrates were told Hall took £18,830 in total.

Magistrates imposed a 26-week jail term suspended for 24 months.

Giving reasons for the sentence, magistrates said it was a ‘large amount of money taken from mother, (with a) breach of trust’.

Hall must complete 300 hours' unpaid work.

She must pay a £115 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

She does not have to pay any compensation.

Hall admitted fraud by false representation.
