Arrests as community centre in Portsmouth is burgled

Power tools were taken from the Stacey Centre, in Walsall Road, Copnor, last night at 7pm.
Police went to the centre and shortly later arrested two men, 39 and 23, from Portsmouth, on suspicion of burglary.

Hide AdA police spokesman said: ‘They remain in custody at this time as our investigations continue today.
‘We know that this is a particularly concerning time for our local businesses but we hope this shows you that we are still fighting crime in the city and will take action to help keep our communities safer.
‘We are out on patrol every day and will continue to be throughout this worrying time.’
It comes after Inspector David Sanderson warned empty premises in Portsmouth were ‘at risk of being illegally occupied or damaged’ due to closures in the coronavirus lockdown.
