Marjorie Brand from Portchester Townswomens Guild said: ‘We started putting our tables out and arranging dozens of small cakes on plates that were covered with red serviettes.
‘The manager very kindly allocated us a space in the corridor close to the activities.
‘Zumba gold, table tennis, keep-fit and a tea dance were taking place – so there were lots of customers to be tempted by our delicious cakes.

‘On top of this, we also ran a competition to name a doll.’
The doll in question was revealed at the end of the day as being called Snudge, from the old television programme Bootsy and Snudge.
Marjorie added: ‘It was just so lovely to have so many people come out and support us.
‘That support is priceless when you think about the good that this donation can do for those less fortunate than ourselves, which is absolutely fantastic.’
