‘Karen’ (no surname supplied) thinks the top photo was taken from Flathouse Road with the road on the right being Clarence Street as this was a route she took to work in the 1980s.
Eric Eddles says it is the junction of Fitzherbert Street and Clarence Street. The fence on the left surrounds Pitt Street sports field. Out of shot on the right was Pitt Street swimming baths. Where the photographer was standing is now the Market Way entrance to the M275 beside the old ABC roundabout.

Hide AdAlan Preston says it was taken from the dockyard wall, with the tree and bushes shielding the Pitt Street pitch. He says: ‘It would make a good ‘then and now’ photo with Morrisons’ car park and Sainsbury’s,’ he suggests.
No sooner said than done, Alan. So here's the same place today with Market Way crossing over the former junction of Fitzherbert Street and Clarence Street. The old corner of Pitt Street arena is now the junction with Flathouse Road.
