Data examined by the PA news agency shows Portsmouth Hospitals University is among the few hospital trusts in the country to routinely hit the national target for cancer referrals.
In England, the maximum waiting time for a hospital appointment for suspected cancer is two weeks from the day the hospital receives a referral letter from a GP.

Chief operating officer Chris Evans said: ‘Despite huge pressures on our hospital and the wider NHS system this summer, the dedicated hard work of our cancer teams means we have continued to deliver urgent checks to those patients suspected of cancer.
‘We are always striving to provide the best possible care for our patients.’
