Coronavirus infection rate in Portsmouth almost at 100 as cases rise

Latest statistics released by the government show the rolling seven-day rate of infections in the city, as well as the total number of new cases.
The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Hide AdIn Portsmouth, there have been 214 new Covid-19 cases over the seven-day period up to October 11 – an infection rate of 99.6.
The leader of Portsmouth City Council, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, has called for a ‘circuit-breaker’ with a two-week national lockdown.
Labour MP for Portsmouth South, Stephen Morgan, has also called for contact tracing to be placed into the hands of local authorities.

Hide AdHe said: ‘The government should look at the science, follow our call to bring in a circuit break and transfer control of contact tracing to local authorities, so that we can better protect people’s lives and livelihoods.
‘Transferring this control on a local level to Portsmouth is crucial if we are to see the Government get a grip on this crisis and save people’s lives.’
