Dad horrified by feeding newborn baby out-of-date milk bought at Sainsbury's in Southsea

Perry Hore, 27, bought 14 200ml bottles of Aptamil ready-made formula from Sainsbury’s Local in Palmerston Road, Southsea on October 1.
When his daughter Meadow-Amaya began to show signs of stomach pain, he checked the date on the bottles – and was horrified to see two went out of date in August and two in July.

Hide AdHe said: ‘I am horrified. I only noticed because of her behaviour. She was in so much pain, cramping and pulling her legs up. I couldn’t believe it. I am disgusted that this was allowed to happen.'
Perry took the bottles back to the store for a refund on October 3 – but said he was left unsatisfied by how his complaint was handled.
He said that out of the 14 bottles, he was sure at least four were out of date, four were in date but six had been used and thrown away.
Perry, who also has two other children, said: ‘I was blown away by it. They have been careless by not rotating the stock properly.

Hide Ad‘I purchased so much I must have taken the stock from the back of the shelf too.
‘I am mortified that my daughter was affected by it and Sainsbury’s didn’t seem to care about it.
‘I have been using that store ever since my girlfriend moved here and I really like the shop but this has shocked me. I thought that the children and baby section would be a one of their top priorities but that doesn’t appear so.
‘I didn’t think they were very sincere when they spoke to me. It was appalling. If it was one of their kids I bet it would be a totally different story.’

Hide AdWhen he returned to the store, he said he was offered a £75 credit but he said the company did not appear sincere with its apology – and that he has no confidence that procedures will be changed so it does not happen again.
Now he and his girlfriend Georgia Hillier, 21, are speaking out to warn other people to check the dates on formula before they buy it.
Perry said: ‘As soon as we realised what the problem was we stopped giving her the milk and she is back to normal. If it is that far out of date then it will obviously upset you. I will be checking in future. I don’t want this to happen again, to us or anyone else.’
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: ‘We have apologised to Perry. We have processes in place to prevent this from happening and we are investigating what happened in this case.’
