THE five-day Boomtown festival has been axed despite selling out its 66,000 capacity.

The festival, started in 2009, was due to return to Matterley Estate, near Winchester from August 11 to 15 this year.

It was due to take place less than a fortnight before Southsea’s Victorious Festival 2021, which announced its line up last month.

It marks the second year that the festival has been called off.

More than 77 per cent of Boomtown 2020 ticket holders had rolled their tickets over to this year’s event.

The festival has confirmed that all tickets for the 2021 festival will remain valid for the 2022 event.

They will automatically roll over.
