Way back to face league leaders

MIDFIELDER George Way returns to the Hayling United side looking for their first win since the middle of December tonight (Tuesday) at the College Ground.

But with league leaders Poole Town the visitors, boss Mark Poulton knows his Humbugs will have their work cut out of if his side are to get anything out of the Wessex League Premier Division clash, which kicks off at 7.30pm.

Way has been banned for United's last four matches after being sent off for the second time this season.

The dismissal came against Cowes Sports back in December, but with nine matches postponed between the Christmas period and the middle of January because of the winter weather, Way has had to wait two months to don a black and white shirt again.

Poulton was disappointed to see his team fail to capitalise after taking the lead for a third game running at New Milton Town, on Saturday.

After youth team striker Nathan Paxton had broken the deadlock, the hosts were allowed back in the game and scored an equaliser with just six minutes left.

Poulton said: "I look upon it as two points dropped. Once again we shot ourselves in the foot when we looked on the way to a win.

"Their centre-forward had already rolled our centre-half a few times before and we didn't learn from it.

"We let him do it again and this time he stuck a terrific shot into our top corner. I felt we deserved to win because their goalkeeper pulled off a string of impressive saves.

"The one from Nathan Paxton's volley was the best save I have seen all season."
