Poulton calls for protection from ref

HUMBUGS boss Mark Poulton is demanding his young players get protection from the referee when they face high-flying Blackfield & Langley tomorrow (Saturday).

Poulton was furious that young striker Nathan Paxton was forced off the pitch in the 5-2 midweek defeat against promotion favourites Poole Town after being "stamped on" by a Dorset defender.

United were set to pull off a major shock in the Wessex League Premier Division game at the College Ground on Tuesday after Paxton had given the hosts a shock lead.

In fact United were 2-0 up when the 16-year-old was crocked by the bad challenge which the referee turned a blind eye to according to Poulton.

The visitors from Dibden in Southampton will provide a stiff test for the home side having beaten them 4-1 before Christmas.

With United in need of some points to put some distance between Hayling and the relegation places it should ensure another lively game at The College Ground.

Luckily Paxton appears to have suffererd no lasting damaage and the teenager who has been monitored by Southampton all season, is expected to lead the line as Poulton has the luxury of picking the same side as faced Poole, if he so chooses.

Hayling United v Blackfield & Langley (KO 3pm) from: Harrop, Greenway, Oliver, Taylor, Thurgood, Salter-Vaile, Wall, Case J, Case A, Way, Paxton, Gillman, Burney, Huntley, Walker.
