Humbugs make it three wins in row on road
HAYLING United recorded a third-consecutive win with a 3-2 success at Alresford Town, on Tuesday night.
But the victory - which moved the Humbugs back up into 16thplace in the Wessex League Premier Division - was marred by the dismissal of the impressive Graeme Gillman, who netted the visitors' third goal to put the result beyond doubt with 20 minutes to go.
Gillman, who made his debut for the club in the 8-1 hammering at Wimborne in the middle of January, was sent off with two minutes remaining when he retaliated after being elbowed by an Alresford player.
The combative midfielder, who scored the winner when Hayling pulled off a shock win against fifth place Bournemouth Poppies on Saturday, will now miss the next three matches against Winchester City, Brading Town and Bournemouth Poppies after being dismissed for violent conduct.
Alresford had led at the break, but United hit back early in the second half following an excellent piece of skill from Lenny Burney, who was back in the side after suspension.
The striker controlled a cross on his chest, turned his defender and rifled a shot into the roof of the net.
United went in front on the hour when Josh Case cut inside his marker and fired into the bottom corner.
Gillman latched on to Nathan Paxton's cushioned header to add a third after 70 minutes..
After Gillman's dismissal Alresford grabbed a consolation in stoppage time but could not prevent Hayling leapfrogging over the hosts in the league table as the visitors recorded their eighth win of the season.
Humbug's boss Mark Poulton will be looking to build on his side's success on the road as United prepare to play five home matches in the next fortnight, starting with the visit of Winchester City on Saturday.
