Hayling capture Division Four title
HAYLING Island were promoted to County Division Three of the Hampshire League in August – their fourth promotion in six years.
Despite losing their unbeaten record to title rivals Rowner in July, skipper Phil Mist led his side to promotion in style with a thumping win appropriately at Hambledon – reckoned by many to be the birthplace of cricket.
The home side were skittled out for just 16 runs – the lowest total ever recorded in County Division Four.
Dave Gorvin took seven wickets for just nine runs, including a hat-trick, while Mike Hallett took 3-6.
It took Hayling's openers just 15 balls to knock off their target.
They followed that up with a 10-wicket win at Hayling Park against Curdridge after Hallett took 8-20 to dismiss the visitors for just 54.
Fair Oak II scored six less in the final league game of the season before the visitors knocked off 51-2 in double quick time to secure the division four title.
They pipped Rowner by .57 in the point average as the Gosport side could only complete 14 of their 17 scheduled fixtures, while Mist's men were only washed out once by the weather.
