Brighton out make life grim for northern seasiders

Brighton travel to Blackpool this weekend for the Battle of the Seasiders and Amex head honcho Gus Poyet is hoping his charges have learnt their lesson from when the two teams met earlier in the season.

Back in August the Albion surrendered a 2v0 lead against Ian Holloway’s team, with veteran goal grabber Kevin Phillips the home side’s tormenter in chief.

The former Sunderland star bagged both goals in the Tangerines’ comeback after Holloway had shuffled his back with a triple substitution.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Poyet said, “We drew that game when it was in our own hands and we have got to remember they have good players – players who can change a game at any time, and of course that includes Kevin Phillips.

“We didn’t do the basics against him in the last game and we conceded a couple of goals. We can’t let that happen again.”

Brighton head into the match unbeaten in the league in 2012 and on the back of a good win against south coast rivals Portsmouth.

Blackpool on the other hand have hit a relatively sticky patch in their pursuit of a return to the top flight.

They have won just once in the five games they were knocked out of the FA Cup at Everton, leaving them outside the top six ahead of three forthcoming games against promotion hopefuls

Nevertheless, Poyet is expecting a difficult trip. “It’s going to be tough for us,” her said, “but we have got to take positives from the game earlier in the season.”
