Hayling beat Borough to stay top
RUN-GETTER Sam Thompson ensured another easy victory against Gosport Borough II on Saturday, as Hayling maintained their 100 per cent record at the top of County Division Four South of the Hampshire League.
Opening left-arm bowler Dave Wayman put the visitors in a strong position from the off as he returned from holiday feeling fresh – removing five Borough batsmen for just 14 runs.
The hosts were dismissed for just 90 as Hayling's attack took all 10 wickets for the ?? time in six matches this summer.
Having bowled out the home side on their own track for the second time in three away matches, Thompson and all-rounder Mike Lever set about knocking off the required runs.
Thompson was unbeaten for the second time this year while Lever added a fine 37 as Hayling lost just two wickets in amassing their victory target of 91.
It gave the league leaders another 23 points, taking their total to 138 and crucially giving them a one-point lead in their average – which is also 23 – over second place Rowner.
Captain Phil Mist's side's unbeaten record will face another tough test when fourth place Bashley Rydall III travel to Hayling Park, on Saturday (June 26).
The New Forest side have only lost once in their five completed matches in 2010.
Rowner are the only other unbeaten side in the division and the Gosport side are at home to strugglers Fair Oak II.
