Golfers clean up in borough sports awards

THREE of Hayling's brightest golf prospects were honoured at the annual Havant Sports Awards.

Talented Toby Burden, Colin Walsh and Raffi Dyer were recognised at the ceremony – in its 30th year – hosted by the Mayor of Havant, councillor Jackie Branson.

Burden, currently in Australia for some warm-weather training, won the Over-18 Sportsman of the Year, while Walsh was joint Under-18 Sportsman of the Year.

Last year's winner Raffi Dyer was runner-up in the Over-18 Sportswoman of the Year category.

Plus-three handicapper Burden won the Stoneham Trophy and was runner-up in the Hampshire Amateur Championship and the Courage Trophy.

England Under 16 international Walsh was third in the Italian Under-16s and took the county Under 16 trophy.

Dyer qualified for the Nick Faldo Series Grand Final in Brazil for the second year running and won the EWGA South Division Girls' Championship,the English Schools' Girls Championship and took the club's Ladies' title.

The award winners will now go through to the Sport Hampshire County Awards at the Botleigh Grange Hotel, on March 24.
