Eight out of eight for Mist's men

DIVISION Four South leaders Hayling Island's fantastic start to the season continued when they racked up a 68-run win over Michelmarsh & Timsbury at the weekend – without their star batsmen.

Talisman Sam Thompson, the club's lead run-scorer was at Lords watching England lose to Australia in the fourth one-day international, on July 3.

But even without their top scorer Hayling's total of 261-7 was far too much for Michelmarsh & Timsbury who were dismissed for 193.

That made eight wins in a row and left unbeaten Hayling 0.88 points clear of rivals Rowner as the season nears the half-way point.

The latest win sets up this weekend's top of the table clash when Rowner head over from Gosport to West Town's Hayling Park to face Mist's men in the battle of the division's two unbeaten sides in 2010.

Mike Hallett stepped up to the plate against Michelmarsh & Timsbury with a brilliant 141 not out to steal Thompson's thunder.

Spinner David Gorvin was the again the dangerman with the ball as he whipped out four of the home side's batsmen for just 39 runs.

With seven straight wins on the spin since the start of the season going into the crunch clash, Phil Mist's men are dreaming of promotion yet again.

Thompson said: "Having missed out on promotion by the narrowest of margins last year we want to make sure this time.

"We feel the club is a lot stronger and has greater strength in depth. Both our firsts and seconds are unbeaten and we want to keep it that way."
