ALTHOUGH the weather has been dire, the rain has left Hayling Golf Club's course looking very healthy, and members have been grateful for the natural drainage meaning it hsa not been closed once so far this winter.
It was third time lucky for new lady captain Marie McCanna, who finally had the weather to hold her drive-In on December 3 – although members had to brave blustery conditions to cheer her in.
The day's team competition was won by Anne Stewart, Ann Hobbs, Cindy Good and Maureen Earl, with Daphne Benford, Pam Hawkins, Katie Fernandez and Heather Parham in second. Anne Stewart won the nearest the pin competition with her guess on how far Marie's drive would land from the pin on the part three first.
In the Daily Mail Foursomes Qualifier, an excellent 74 carded by Sally Burbidge and Janet Jenkins saw them qualify as the club's female representatives in the prestigious national matchplay competition in 2010.
The first round starts in February – only three Hampshire clubs have won the trophy in 46 years.
The Turkey Trot was won by Anne Child and Angie Stiles with 34pts. Second place was taken by Anne Aylward and Sheila Schrier on countback with 31pts.
They both received vouchers from Alan Rae butchers in Mengham for a turkey.
