Hampshire Horsewatch is a community initiative working in partnership with the Hampshire Constabulary through the equine liaison officer scheme.
Both schemes have been in place since 2000 and work closely with the equine communities to prevent and reduce the instances of equine crime.

All those involved in the running of the schemes do so on a voluntary basis. Hayling Island has a thrivin
g equine community and there are several Horsewatch members living here.

The strength of Hampshire Horsewatch is having a thriving and committed membership, so the more members the better - especially when membership is free!

Along with her normal duties PCSO Kayleigh Houghton has taken on a role of an equine liaison officer working from Hayling Island Police Station.

Kayleigh is keen to get to know the local equine community and would welcome contact from both horse owners and livery yards on the Island.

There are other liaison officers who have Island connections, but do not actually police the area.

Hampshire Horsewatch has its own web site and information about the scheme and how to join on line can be found on www.nfed.co.uk/horsewatch

Cycle theftsIn December I reported on a recent number of bicycle thefts on the Island. It would appear that these have started up again.

In four weeks from mid-June to mid-July we have had 21 cycles reported stolen of which only six were locked and secure.

The majority were stolen having been left unlocked and in front gardens, driveways or outside shops.

With summer here I would imaging that more people will be resorting to the use of pedal power.

I cannot emphasise enough the importance of securing your cycles with good locks so this type of incident does not happen to you.

The team has access to cycle post coding kit and will be promoting this service at the mobile police station venues, please ask for more details.

SNT priorities update
It was agreed at the Hayling Island Community Board on July 13 that the elected priorities should remain throughout the summer for the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. These priorities are:

  • Anti-social behaviour in Hayling and Mengham Park

  • Engaging with young people on Hayling Island

  • Criminal damage on the sea front.

To have your say on what the policing priorities should be for your area, and to find out what can be done to improve your community, please come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood,

You can influence these priorities by speaking to members of the team, completing a "Your voice counts" leaflet or simply E-mailing us.

These priorities will then be discussed and voted on at the next Community Board Meeting.

Then we can aim to ensure a good quality of life for everyone.

Contacting team
You can contact us on 0845 0454545 and ask for Hayling Island's Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

If no one is available to take your call, leave a message and an officer will call you back.

Alternatively you can email us on hayling.island.snt@ hampshire.pnn.police.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.
