Plan would bring jobs to Island paradise

ALTHOUGH we have only been residents of the Island for a short time, we have three children who were virtually brought up on Hayling, as we were boaters, water-skiers and windsurfers.

The children and grandchildren spend a lot of time with us on Hayling and really enjoy being here.

It is such a lovely Island with so much to offer with just a little thought and investment we could do so much more.

We only have to look along the coast to see other places which have used their environment to enhance their potential.

If we could sustain a sandy beach that in itself would bring families to Hayling as it does to the Witterings.

We also need to provide some facilities for our windsurfers as it is one of things Hayling is known for.

Newquay has built apartments especially for the surfers or at least put in somewhere where they can store equipment and get a shower.

Also our boating community should not be left out as we have such a great area for them to use - we have easy access to the Isle of Wight and Lymmington just along the coast.

A chain-link ferry would provide another access to the Island which would help avoid too much traffic congestion.

All this seems to rest on us getting a breakwater constructed and the seafront updated, which, with a combination of public funds and private funds, may be possible.

All these things would bring much-needed employment and trade to the Island making for a much more prosperous place to live.
