Windsurfers return to Hayling Island

WINDSURFING will return to its birthplace for one of the biggest watersports festivals in the country.

The National Windsurfing Festival will be staged for the seventh year running at the Inn On The Beach at Hayling Island.

Hundreds of windsurfers will be taking to the water in various competitions.

There will also be demonstrations, windsurfing clinics, parties, and fancy dress displays.

The three-day festival, which is sponsored by Havant Borough Council, begins on Friday, with activities throughout the weekend.

A highlight will be the Night Windsurf under floodlights from about 8.30pm on Saturday.

Councillor Yvonne Weeks, who oversees community events in Havant borough, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support this fabulous event for another year.

‘It’s a free event for the whole family and we hope that residents and visitors will come along and soak up the atmosphere. It’s a great sport which was founded on Hayling Island by Pete Chilvers, so it is fitting to host the event here.’
