Traditional entertainment at gala concert

PLANS are well under way for a joint celebration of three major events.

The Open Air Charity Gala Concert in Eastoke, Hayling, will mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, St George’s Day and the 30th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.

It is organised by Hayling residents and businesses and will take place on April 22 at the revamped Eastoke Corner Plaza.

The stars of the show will be the HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band, performing patriotic music in a similar vein to Last Night of the Proms.

There will be a host of traditional British entertainment including the Martless Morrismen and a Punch and Judy show. Theatre group Hayling Young Stars will perform a specially-commissioned play about St George.

It will end with a Sunset Ceremony - the Naval equivalent of Beating the Retreat. The free event is from 2pm to 6pm.
