Thieves target car parked in street

THIEVES broke into a car and tried to steal it while parked in a street.

The blue Peugeot 205 was parked in Seaside Road in St Leonards when it was targeted between 6.20pm on Saturday 29 December and 10.25am on Sunday 30 December.

It was found by local officers who noticed damage had been caused to the driver’s side door. It was later discovered that the steering column had been broken and it is believed thieves had been attempting to steal the car.

PC Alan Heath, of Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area during the times of this incident to come forward with any information.

“I would urge all car owners not to leave property in their cars and also to consider using a shop-bought steering lock to deter thieves.”

Witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting serial 0379 of 30/12. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
