Safer Neighbourhood Team priorities
ON THE BEAT by Sgt STEVE PRATLEY For some time now Hayling police have worked with you, the community to find out what matters most where you live.
We will work with you and our partner agencies to agree the main priorities for the area and how we will work together to tackle them.
The three main community priorities for Hayling are currently:
Anti-social behaviour in Hayling Park. We are utilising head cameras to gather evidence to support ABC work and prosecution
Youth engagement. We have been working closely with other agencies, utilising youth questionnaires and acting on the results/needs of the community
Criminal damage on the sea front. We have been working with other agencies to reduce number of incidents reported from the area.
Have your say on what the policing priorities should be for your area.
What can be done to improve your community? How can we ensure a good quality of life for everyone?
Come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood, and play your part in setting local priorities.
You can influence these priorities by speaking to members of the team, completing a "Your Voice Counts" leaflet or simply e-mailing us your comments and views.
These priorities will then be discussed and voted on at the next Safer Neighbourhood Panel.
UPDATE ON 101
From April 1, 101 became a police only non-emergency number in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight running alongside the existing 0845 0454545 number.
The 101 service will no longer be a partnership service between police and local authorities.
Members of the public can now call 101 for all non-emergency contact with Hampshire Constabulary.
This includes the reporting of crime as well as anti-social behaviour issues, leaving a message for an officer or member of staff, and general advice and information.
The decision was made by Chief Constable Alex Marshall following a lack of cohesion within the 101 partnership in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight which had been in place since May 2006.
While most local authorities support the police in providing an accessible non-emergency number, a number of local authorities were not supportive of the partnership arrangements.
While call charges for the 0845 0454545 number can vary significantly depending on the provider the caller is using, a call to 101 only costs a flat rate of 10p per call - irrespective of call duration or whether made from landlines or mobile phones.
Calls to 101 are free from public phone boxes.
Both 101 and 0845 calls will continue to be answered by the Hampshire Constabulary switchboard, and the caller will be greeted with "Hampshire Police," irrespective of the number they dialled.
Any information relating to anti-social behaviour issues that is relevant to both police and local authorities will continue to be recorded and passed on to councils for information or action so that partnership working using shared information can continue locally.
However, for non-police related anti-social behaviour issues such as noise nuisance or the removal of graffiti callers will be advised that any follow-up enquiries should be made directly to the local authorities.
If the issue is a local authority-only matter the Force Enquiry Centre will not take the details but signpost the caller to the appropriate agency.
SPEEDING
I have been asked to provide some information regarding complaints of speeding vehicles on Hayling Island.
We recognise that speeding can be a concern individuals as well as the community.
Speed complaints are evaluated by the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) that covers this area.
Once complaints and information regarding excess speed have been evaluated, where appropriate, resources are deployed for enforcement by the community re-assurance team.
Any complaints regarding speeding or anti-social driving can be reported directly to the RPU's community re-assurance team to: rpu.community@hampshire.pnn.police.uk
