Rger had three children Sally, Serena and, Anthony and moved to Hayling Island in 1978, when his wife Diana became a partner at the Island's GP practice.

His last job before leaving the Royal Navy in 1988 was Captain Naval Drafting where he was responsible for the drafting of all male and female ratings in the Royal Navy.

After leaving the service he worked on tactical software at Ferranti and then took up the position of general manager of Jane's Information Services before finally becoming the secretary and executive director of the Historic Churches Preservation Trust and Incorparated Church Building Society.
