Portsmouth theatre in for double accolade

The Portsmouth Festivities and New Theatre Royal have been nominated for honours in the 2010 Arts & Business Awards.

The NTR's redevelopment project with the University of Portsmouth is in line for the Sustained Partnership Award, and the theatre's former chairman, university vice-chancellor Professor John Craven, has been nominated as Board Member of the Year.

The dual recognition arises from a collaboration between theatre and university that will result in the NTR not only transforming its stage-house but developing offices, rehearsal rooms and a creative learning space on the disused back-lot.

Chichester Festival Theatre and Seaward Properties Ltd are up for the same partnership award, and another contender for Board Member of the Year is Norman Armstrong of the Gunwharf-based Aspex Visual Arts Trust.

The Portsmouth Festivities is nominated for the Community Award with Southern Co-operative.

Results will be announced on July 14.
