Parking problems - what we can and can't do
On the Beat by Sgt STEVE PRATLEY Hayling Safer Neighbourhoods Team WE receive numerous queries regarding parking and in particular who actually deals with parking issues.
In brief the police continue to enforce traffic offences which can result in penalty points such as parking on a pedestrian crossing or causing an obstruction.
Other parking matters are predominantly dealt with by Havant Borough Council under the Parksafe scheme. Full details can be found at www.havant.gov.uk
HBC traffic wardens deal with issues such as parking on double yellow lines, in disabled bays without displaying a valid badge, and in loading bays or taxi ranks,
Staying too long in limited waiting areas or in car parks, failing to pay and display a valid ticket or permit where there is a parking charge and parking outside marked bays are also the wardens' responsibility.
Safer Neighbourhoods Team priorities
It was agreed at the last Hayling Island Community Board in July that the elected priorities should remain throughout the summer until the next meeting – see report (left).
You can have your say on what the policing priorities should be for your area, what can be done to improve your community and how can we ensure a good quality of life for everyone.
Come and tell us what is important to you in your neighbourhood, You can influence these priorities by speaking to members of the team, completing a 'Your Voice Counts' leaflet or simply by e-mailing us.
These priorities will then be discussed and voted on at the next Community Board meeting on September 14 at the Bridge Centre.
Mobile police station dates
Residents are again urged to come along and meet their local police officers and councillors to discuss any policing and community issues they may have at local beat surgeries being held in September.
The dates and venues are:
Monday, September 14 - Mengham Road, Mengham, 10am-1pm
Wednesday, September 16 - Beachlands car park, 9am-1pm
I would like the local community to take advantage of this facility – it is not just about reporting crimes, it is an opportunity to discuss any police-related issues.
