Lifeboat busy during hot spell
HAYLING’S lifeboat launched 10 times over a busy weekend to look for missing children, rescue exhausted swimmers and help three sea vessels.
The RNLI was called to search for missing children at West Wittering beach last Saturday.
The youngsters were eventually found safe and well on the shore.
After the Atlantic 85 was released from service, it spotted two teenagers who were being swept out to sea.
The lifeboat picked them and took them back to shore.
On Sunday, at 5.50pm the lifeboat called out to help two 25-year-old men, who had been swimming at West Wittering and were being swept out to sea by the currents.
One of the men was seriously ill after swallowing sea water and the coastguard helicopter landed on the beach.
Both men were airlifted to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Lifeboat operations manager at Hayling RNLI Jonathan Bradbury said: ‘We were very busy with overlapping incidents, but are glad to provide an RNLI service to save lives off the busy summer beaches.’
