Janet was Townswomen's Guild founder

A FULL St. Peter's Church paid tribute at the thanksgiving service for Janet Ellen Heath (nee Newland), who sadly passed away on May 9.

Born in 1937, Janet lived all her life on Hayling. After leaving school she worked at Pullingers for many years running the soft furnishings workroom.

In 1960, she married Alan and had her two children James and Sarah.

She was a founder member of the Halying Olde Tyme Dance Club and an active member of the Townswomen's Guild.

In the late '80s she opened her beloved shop Green Gables, in Emsworth, with Sarah passing on her skills as an excellent loose cover maker, selling homemade crafts.

Janet enjoyed her holidays over the years - home and aboard - whether it was caravanning with the family or venturing to Europe and Canada with Alan.

After Alan died she tried to remain socially active going on holidays alone, making new friendships, even going to Australia.

She volunteered at the Sue Ryder shop in West Town where she was a valued team member.

Janet will be sorely missed by all her friends and family, and especially her three grandchildren Kurt, Keir and Jodie whom she loved dearly.

She was a true Hayling Islander, who loved the beach and spent so much time there whether swimming or just walking, even being pushed along in her chair ovet the last few months, breathing in the sea air… that special Hayling sea air.
