It's the final countdown
THREE more "recces" are to take place before the Paris to Hayling in July, in the attempt to ensure that our great endeavour goes as smoothly on our new routes and destinations as it has in the past, when Paris or Versailles were the focus.
Pete and Lyn Alloway are driving the route so that the route notes can be checked and any improvements added, positions for direction signs determined and suggestions for suitable support crew stops made.
Support crew manager Rod Elliott and Paul Fisher are also travelling the route on a separate visit, with a view to identifying the hotels for support crew purposes, including bike storage and vehicle parking, as well as "snagging" any extra hotel needs and determining relative locations, to help with the hotel and rooming allocation process.
Meryl Brown and Kerry West are to visit Caen Castle to ensure that our last night party goes on without any hitches.
The proof will be in the cycling, but we look forward to a great week and are praying for good weather!
We have been overwhelmed by the level of interest in this year's 23rd event – Le Tours de Tours.
We have had more than 230 entries and have waiting lists on both the three-day (July 13) and six-day rides (July 15).
With 14 cancellations so far riders on the reserve lists are now being confirmed.
Both rides return on Sunday, July 20, for a welcome back reception at Hayling College, courtesy of Hayling United.
Riders are expected to raise at least 150, for a charity of their choice.
Call 023 9246 1412 or 07770 888501 for any queries. You can write to Paris to Hayling, PO Box 30, Hayling Island, PO11 9UD. www.hayling-cycle-ride.org.uk e-mail: paul@hayling-cycle-ride.org.uk
