Hop down to library and find space to read
SPACE Hop is this year's summer reading challenge in Hampshire libraries and it will run from July 19 to September 12.
It is aimed at all children aged four-11 and it is free! Last year more than 25,,000 children took part in the Quest Seekers Challenge, reading a massive total of more than 100,000 books.
There were more than 16,000 medal winners last year and librarians are planning for more this year.
To complete the challenge, children need to read six books from the library during the summer holidays and there are posters and stickers to collect along the way.
Everyone who completes the challenge gets a certificate and a medal and their names are included on a roll of honour, which is sent to their school in the autumn term.
Children can choose any books they want from the library to complete the challenge - story books, information books and audio books all count.
Library service staff know that the challenge focuses children's holiday reading, builds up their reading confidence and introduces them to new books and authors.
Hayling Library and Starfish Children's Centre are running a summer gazebo project at Eaststoke Community Centre from the end of July until the schools go back.
Each session at 1 Wheatlands Avenue will have a different theme eg technology, music for therapy - featuring Kwame Drumming - fitness, music and Heuristic play and Imagination.
The sessions will run from 10am-2pm on Wednesday, July 28, Monday, August 2, Thursday, August 12, Tuesday, August 17, Wednesday August 25 and Friday, September 3.
