Heritage trail will be unveiled on Hayling Island
THE wartime story of Hayling will be told when the island’s new heritage trail is unveiled on Saturday.
A parade of Second World War military vehicles will take place at The Station Theatre, in Station Road, as part of the launch event.
As reported, six information boards have been put up to tell the story of wartime Hayling through words, pictures and maps.
The event starts with a champagne reception at 11am and at midday the trail will be unveiled by the Mayor.
Other heritage events are taking place on Hayling this month, with Newtown House Hotel, in Manor Road, opening up its doors next Tuesday and Wednesday for an exhibition, including the chance to see an original canoe from Combined Operations Pilotage Parties.
The exhibition is open from 11am to 5pm on both days.
Next Thursday at 11.30am there will be a dedication ceremony at the new COPP memorial on Hayling seafront.
Patricia Countess Mountbatten CBE will lay a wreath along with senior dignitaries of the defence services.
