Help us get to core of council strategy
THE HIRA quarterly meeting will address the Core Strategy for Havant within the Strategic Development Framework, when it meets this month.
This will concentrate on how it affects Hayling and, within that, the Seafront Masterplan.
The overall plan covers for the period up till 2026 and affects all aspects of life.
I attended a meeting at Havant Borough Council on June 16, and there was a feeling from the audience that HBC had not really dealt with the future with any great degree of imagination.
From Hayling's point of view it calls for perhaps 500 more new homes (6,300 across the borough) in the period, and the possible implementation of the Seafront plan.
The latter – as reported in the Islander in May - identifies three hubs at Eastoke Corner, Central Beachlands and the West Beach.
Facilities include watersports, accommodation, beach hut and other facilities, boardwalk to link the centres etc.
Also included is a requirement for better access for disabled people to the beach from the boardwalk.
Of major significance is that public comment is invited until July 24 and that many opportunities exist before that date to go to exhibitions across the borough. To find out more come to our meeting at Mengham's United Reformed Church Hall, on Thursday, July 16, at 7.30pm.
Eastoke Corner
Considerable effort is being put into ensuring that the funds remaining for this project are so used. HBC has been trying to divert these elsewhere.
See the Community Board report for more information.
Updates
Residents will be very pleased to see the improvement works in Fishery Lane have now been finished, hopefully to the satisfaction of all.
There was still concern about dog – and horse – fouling in the area.
One official across the borough was unlikely to have much impact though having more would be expensive.
We understand the major sailboarding competition will return again to Hayling.
The HIRA website is in the process of being up-dated and improved – look out for it!
Summer Events
The summer events are upon us now, Do not forget the Carnival, Scarecrow Festival, Three Church Fetes, Playing on the Plaza and many more.
People put great effort into organising these and need total support from residents and visitors alike.
