Hayling bike ride raises cash
CYCLISTS pedalled their way from London to Hayling Island to help children orphaned by Aids.
Setting off from Richmond Park, the 43 fundraisers cycled more than 75 miles to their end destination, The Ship Inn by Hayling bridge.
The event was cancelled last month due to bad weather, but this ride went without a hitch.
More than £13,000 was raised at the event, which was supported by the Hayling Charity Cycle Ride.
The cash will go to Hope HIV, which helps African communities.
Peter McQuade, president of the Hayling Charity Cycle Ride, was due to take part in the ride, but decided to support instead due to a back problem.
He said: ‘We were delighted to help out with yet another successful ride.
‘Having seen at first hand just what fantastic work Hope HIV does in Africa I know that many young people’s lives will be significantly improved by the money raised.
‘I am sure the London to Hayling Ride will now be an annual event and one which I am certain we will gladly support next year as well.’
