Grease lightning!

COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWS By TANIA JONES THE Community Centre took part in last month's carnival day by entering a float in the procession.

We chose Grease as our theme, and had lots of fun dressing up as the characters from Rydell High School.

Thank you so much to all those involved who helped in any way, but especially to all the wonderful characters with their fantastic costumes who really made it a day to remember.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to Dave Silver from HMS (Hants Motor Salvage) who supplied and drove the float for us.

We all enjoyed ourselves, despite the weather, and we can't wait to do it again next year!

It will be back to business as usual at the centre over the coming months, now that the regular groups will be returning after a much-deserved summer break.

There is an abundance of activities on offer to suit all. New courses include yoga, tai chi, digital cameras, art, French, Spanish, English with IT and model making.

Call in for a copy of our Centre News brochure, which lists details of all the classes and events over the coming month.

The Horticultural Society will be hosting their main summer show Dahlias and Chrysanthemums here on Saturday, September 5, and can promise gorgeous displays and tasty refreshments.

Doors open at 1.30pm for disabled visitors, and then to the rest of the public at 2pm.

Teams of eight are invited to join the fun at a quiz night in aid of Save the Children, on Saturday, September 5.

Tickets are 8.50 per head and include a delicious quiche and salad supper, followed by pavlova.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Contact Clare Hill on 9246 6782 to register your team.

The Havant Symphony Orchestra is back at the centre for its annual concert on Saturday, September 19, performing classics by Strauss, Dvorak and Tchaikovsk.

Tickets are on sale priced 9 adults, 7 senior citizens, 3 students and children.

We have some room availability during the week in both of our activity rooms.

There are refreshment-making facilities, or you can purchase from our snack bar, and the room can be used for clubs, classes, courses, committee meetings, lectures etc..

Rates are very competitive, and discounts are available for registered charities.

We can also help with advertising your class or event. Contact Tania Jones on 9246 7562 for additional details or pop in and we will show you around.

Local artists are reminded that you can display and sell your works of art from the centre.

While there is no charge for exhibiting, the centre does benefit from 10 per cent of any sale. Contact us for full details if you would like to take part in this scheme.
