ASTRONOMER Sir Patrick Moore held party which raised thousands of pounds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Support groups in Hayling Island and Portsmouth worked together to organise the event at Sir Patrick’s Selsey home and raised £2,273.

The next fundraising evening will be a curry night with a quiz and tombola at the Piranha Bar, Sparkes Marina, Hayling, on November 1.

Sue Kruk, one of the organisers, said: ‘Although one in 20 of us carry the CF gene, only one child in 2,000 inherits cystic fibrosis. Research is offering hope of effective treatments.’ Tickets cost £12. Call Mrs Kruk on (023) 9246 9104 or Angie Driscoll on 07769 658058.
